We offer you Consultancy, Training and Workshops for Faculty Development

 

Consultancy

In consultation with the Taskforce Faculty Development, individual advice or coaching can be offered to meet the specific wishes of individual FHML teachers or teams of teachers (such as departments, block planning groups, educational program committees, exam committees).
Also, longitudinal guidance can be provided, for example in curriculum innovation projects.

Training and Workshops

The Taskforce Faculty Development offers a range of trainings and workshops.

Mandatory trainings for FHML teaching roles
All new academic staff (WP) attend the ‘Introductory course in principles of PBL’  Introduction in Principles of PBL. After this course new staff members with educational tasks attend the course Tutor/teaching skills (Small Group Teacher Training), the course Mentoring skills (focus on guiding and coaching of individuals) or the CORE training.
After having gained additional educational experience, staff members can start the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ)
To meet the participatory requirements of all courses attendance and active involvement are required. An overview and the link for registration can be found below or in the menu bar above under the heading courses.

From autumn 2019 we will offer support in Continuous Professional Development. You can find a description of the training below.

Introductional course in principles of Problem Based Learning (PBL)

Introduction to Principles of PBL

Training

"Why are we using PBL?"

In this one morning session, the principles of Problem Based Learning (PBL) are introduced shortly.

This course is meant for all employees who work or start to work at FHML to become familiar with the PBL teaching system of our University.

Duration: 3 hours
First 2 hours: Instruction and backgrounds of PBL
Last 1 hour : Simulation tutorial group for employees who did NOT study at Maastricht University.

 

Tutor/Teaching skills (Small Group Teacher Training)

Training

“Guiding a group of students”

Acquire insights and skills for teaching in small groups.
This course is a precondition for all educational roles for small group teaching on A-level.

Precondition for application: Having an educational role such as guiding a tutorial or a practical.
Subscribe for the course corresponding to the block you have the educational role in. Which means that you will follow the training which is scheduled 2-3 weeks before the start of the course in which you are assigned in a teaching role.

Duration:
Session 1: 3 hours
inbetween assignment: observe an experienced tutor
Session 2: 3 hours
Session 3: 2 hours
inbetween assignment: observe one of your peers from the course
Session 4: 2 hours

Prerequisite:
1. Introductional course in principles of Problem Based Learning (PBL)
2. Being assigned in the specific course (select the course which is scheduled 2-3 weeks before the start of the course in which you are assigned in a teaching role)

Mentoring Skills

Training

“Guiding and coaching individual students”

Introduction to mentoring skills within a problem based learning environment, with a focus on individual coaching over a longer period.

Workload: three half-days (excluding self-study)

Prerequisite:  
1. Introductional course in principles of Problem Based Learning (PBL)
2. Being a new mentor in the bachelor or the master


The course mentoring is a precondition for mentor roles (A-level).

“Guiding and coaching individual master students”

Workload: 3 sessions

The course mentoring is a precondition for master mentor roles (A-level). If you are interested in this training click on ‘inquiry’. If five or more staff members have showed interest for the training we will contact you and set a date.
 

Introductie voor nieuwe CORE-docenten

CORE-groep

Training

“Get tools for being a CORE-teacher”

Introduction to CORE education, feedback on simulation patient contact (SPC) and instruction for group dynamics in the CORE group.
Offered by skillslab.

All employees within FHML with a role as Core-teacher

Workload: Six half-days
Prerequisite: PBL principles

Training

“Further development of your teaching competences”

This course focuses on educational design, delivery, assessment, evaluation, reflection and collaboration.
Workload: 5 whole days plus writing an educational portfolio
Prerequisite: PBL Principles and Tutor/Mentor/Core course.

The UTQ certificate is a precondition for all educational roles on B- and C-level.
