Mentoring skills, series A (for new mentors)

more info

For all mentors of FHML bachelor and master students (health sciences, biomedical sciences or medicine/ITM), the taskforce Faculty Development (Docentprofessionalisering/DocProf) offers a mandatory “Mentoring skills course”. This skills course is offered in addition to the (practical/content) sessions your mentor coordinator will offer. Sessions by the mentor coordinator are therefore not interchangeable with the mentoring skills course. You can only attend this course when you have a mentor role in the same year. Before you can register for this course you must be registered for the "Introductional course in PBL".

Please indicate in which study programme (e.g. medicine) you will be mentor in 2019-2020, in the box "your remarks" on the registration form.

The mentoring skills course exists of 3 times a 3-hour session during this academic year. These sessions will focus on practical situations, intervision and will also provide background information and literature needed to fulfil the mentoring role. Session topics are e.g.: expectation management, setting limits, motivational interviewing, dealing with resistance, reflection and providing actionable feedback.

Completion of this mentor training program will lead to a certificate. For those who are interested in following the Universal Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO): the mentor training certificate, combined with the fulfilment of the course “Introductory course in principles of Problem Based Learning” grants conditional access to the UTQ training, as does the tutor training certificate. Please see the Faculty Development course offer brochure or get in touch with the DocProf office for more information on UTQ or Faculty Development in general.
